There is no set age. Dr. Urbinelli performs surgery on infants up to 80+ year olds. Some are congenital, acquired concerns or others for cosmetic concerns. Timing depends on the patient’s issues, their overall health and physical, mental readiness as well as the specific patient’s concerns, goals and expectations. Age is just a number, as some patients who are coming in for their facelift at 70 years old are as healthy as many patients who are 20 years younger.
Do your research, check their credentials, reviews, and be sure to seek out consultations with board-certified plastic surgeons (certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery). Ask them questions during your consultation, make sure their aesthetic eye matches yours, their results are not cookie-cutter results, but rather adapt to the patients’ anatomy and goals and overall that you and the surgeon are on the “same page”. You should feel comfortable with the surgeon, their plan, their approach and pre and postop instructions before signing up for surgery. Afterall, you are trusting them with your face and body. Choose wisely, choose Premier Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery of NY.
Yes, in general plastic surgery procedures are very safe. While all surgical procedures carry risk (infection, bleeding, scars, pain, blood clots, etc), plastic surgery procedures tend to be more easily tolerated and safer than others since they typically are electively and selectively performed on patients who are seeking quality of life procedures and are healthy enough to undergo surgery (unlike some non-elective procedures like open heart or brain surgery that is needed for life saving/extending reasons). While not all plastic surgery is done electively (trauma or cancer reconstruction), most of the time it can be scheduled when the patient is optimized medically. Additionally, plastic surgery is made safe(r) especially if performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). This surgeon has had rigorous training for 6-8 years after medical school, passed numerous exams (both written and oral) and met the ethical and safety standards that only a select few have achieved. This certification helps patients know their plastic surgeon is competent, qualified and ethical. Making plastic surgery an overall well tolerated and safe choice for most. Please see your American board certified plastic surgeon for more discussion or for your specific risks, benefits and alternatives.
Like many things in life – it depends. Factors that can impact how long surgical results last are: patient factors (skin health, age, biology), surgical factors (techniques, approaches) and after care (compression, massage, supportive garments, healthy diet and weight). Some cosmetic surgeries last longer than others. For example: Bony/cartilage modifications tend to last longer as they are foundational movements/changes (think – rhinoplasty, jaw surgery or chin (genioplasty), or ear modification(otoplasty)). Skin/soft tissue modifications like a breast lift, browlift, or facelift may last 5-15 years before they show signs of “sagging” again. While other soft tissue surgeries can last decades while maintaining their form – tummy tucks, liposuction (for permanent fat removal) and hair transplants. Seek advice for your specific concerns and body from a plastic surgeon board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. No surgical results are guaranteed or under “warranty” but have your surgeon discuss with you their expected results with you at your consultation.
Yes, depending on the types of procedures, extent of surgery, locations of the areas (to be sure they don’t interfere with one another), the patient’s overall health and surgeon’s judement of safety. We often combine procedures together to help save patient’s repeated recovery times, repeated exposures to general anesthesia (if needed) and potentially save on costs for the patient. Every case is evaluated individually, so please seek your advice from a board-certified plastic surgeon.
